His Way Atlanta is leading the way in helping individuals overcome addiction by partnering with the Forsyth County Drug Court Program in Cumming, Ga.
Through the unique structure of the His Way Atlanta two-year program, participants can complete their court-mandated program at His Way and receive the support and resources they need to heal and overcome.
The success stories coming out of His Way Atlanta speak volumes. Take Morgan Forney, for example. After facing incarceration and the loss of his home, Morgan found the stability and support he needed at His Way. He credits His Way Atlanta with not only providing practical support but also invaluable life lessons and a sense of belonging.
“It was a huge life change for me,” said Morgan. “I got back on track with my family, learned a lot of life lessons and Biblical knowledge, and built relationships. It’s been a wonderful experience.”
Morgan is the first graduate of the His Way Atlanta two-year program, completing the program in January 2024. He is now a full-time His Way Atlanta employee.
“A lot of places that I’ve seen others go,” Morgan shared, “the residents get treated like they’re only there for a short time or they’re a cash grab from their insurance. Everyone expects something of that sort, but His Way is not like that. They care so much about me – genuinely care – and are people that want to make a difference in others’ lives.”
Morgan is one of two men from the Forsyth County program who have graduated from the two-year program. Four others are currently in their second year.
Life Beyond Recovery
As participants progress through the program, they gain increased independence and privileges, preparing them for life beyond recovery. His Way Atlanta Director Jeremy Mitchell emphasizes the program’s ultimate goal: equipping individuals with the skills and resources to become self-sufficient, productive members of society.
Addiction recovery experts stress the importance of extended support. While two years may seem like a long time in recovery, research shows it can take between 12 and 18 months for chemicals in the brain to normalize after addiction, depending on the substance being abused, and the duration and severity of the abuse. The longer a person is in recovery the greater probability for long-term recovery.
The His Way Atlanta two-year program not only meets the requirements of the Forsyth County Drug Court Program but also ensures residents have the time and space needed to achieve lasting transformation.
