My name is Jim Norville. I have been a volunteer at His Way Recovery Center for the past 13 years, because I believe it is the best, life-changing ministry I know about.
When men come to His Way, they have usually become a burden to themselves, their families, and to society. They have tried to change themselves and their addiction without success. They often have little hope that things can change. Many are seeking answers and have a desire for change. Generally, the men know little if anything about who God really is or what His Word says, and people cannot do any better than they know to do.
They also generally have no idea why God created them or what their purpose in life is. Because they are desperate, many of them are open to learning about God and His Word. At His Way, I don’t have to search to find someone interested in studying God’s Word. They ask me to study with them. There is a continuous number of new people coming and seeking good news. I am given the opportunity to share with them the Good News of the Gospel, which is God’s power to transform their lives and save their souls. I get to share with them how they can have a rich welcome into heaven.
In 2020, I had the opportunity to share these messages with sixteen men who have been baptized into Christ, and there have been several others baptized, who have studied with others at His Way. It is only when men grasp that their way of running their lives does not work and will never work, and that only by surrendering their lives to God and doing things his way can they have peace, joy, forgiveness and real life, then they can enjoy God’s transforming power in their lives. I can’t change them, and they can’t change themselves, but God loves them and has the power to change their lives to be a blessing to themselves, their families and to society. Of course, not all of them are so open or receptive, but seeds of truth are planted that may later produce a great crop in their lives.
I have many good friends, who are men that went through the His Way program and whose lives have been transformed by God, who are now serving God and blessing the lives of others.
God calls us to be salt and light to the world. He calls us to live lives that can make a difference to others. The men at His Way need to have people in their lives who value them and demonstrate God’s love to them by being willing to be a part of their lives. There are many different opportunities to help and be involved with these men and play a part in their transformation, if you are interested.
I am thankful for the opportunities God gives me to serve these men and their families, and for the ways he continues to change my life as I do that.
