Living in addiction is like having your life frozen in time. There is no growth, no maturity, no progress. There is an “arrested development” that creates the feeling of a stalled life. Entering into His Way is the beginning of a thawing process that creates a new opportunity for life—a life flourishing in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
A lot changes over the first nine months in the His Way residential program; however it is just the beginning. Whether residents admit it or not, there is a tremendous fear over the completion of the program and transition back into the “real world.”
Our graduates need continued recovery support, which is why we offer various options for further development. Advanced Recovery Group is for 3-6 months after completion of the program, for continued growth in recovery as well as an opportunity to provide leadership to newer residents while living on campus. ARG participants are a great example for our newer brothers and help support a great culture for growth in recovery. This group has been the incubator for our future leadership at His Way.
The Aftercare program lasts a minimum of three months where the brothers move into independent, supervised living in their own rented home. They experience true freedom with a vehicle and open schedule with some accountability.
But what happens after all the programs of His Way are over? Graduation from one or all our programs is more than just a completion. It’s a new beginning and an opportunity to begin putting into full practice the His Way life in which they have been taught and led. This becomes the real moment of truth.
Robby’s Story
Robby graduated in March 2025. To stay involved, he moved into the transitional housing for Aftercare and became a House Manager for about 8 newer residents. He also continued his job at Consolidated Construction. As he was completing the Aftercare program and considering moving from House Manager into a rental house with his wife (she had completed a recovery program and was returning to Huntsville), Robby began expressing real nervousness about leaving the safe, secure environment of His Way. I reminded him that the goal of His Way is not to keep you here forever but to instill the life of His Way in you, so that wherever you go you create a new His Way. The mantra is “You are His Way.” We must have a vision for everywhere we go to create an outpost of His Way.
So, a week before Christmas, Robby’s wife returned after 3½ years of separation and a million years of transformation, to begin a new life together. While Robby was tempted to leave his job at Consolidated for more money, which sounded attractive under the financial stress of more responsibility and independence, he decided to stay. He said their “values are in line with the way I want to live my life.”
Robby and his wife are allowing their home to become an outpost of His Way. They are active in church, attend a weekly Bible study, and have volunteered to drive the His Way bus to church every Sunday. Robby says, “We are trying to live very deliberately.” This is Life His Way!
Justin’s Story
Justin graduated from the nine-month program in July 2025. He became a House Manager and eventually decided to leave his full-time job to work at His Way as a driver while returning to school. He has just completed his third semester at Calhoun College on the President’s list and plans to pursue an undergraduate degree in Religious Studies and master’s possibly in Psychology. Justin joins several others on staff who are pursuing degrees to further qualify them to serve in Christ-centered recovery ministry. All 12 of our residential staff are graduates of His Way and are passionate about making recovery their life’s work. We could not do this without their faithful commitment!
Justin has also been a gifted clothing designer and has had his own line in the past. He is taking this time at His Way to reconstruct his line with a Christian message and get the manufacturing, ordering, and delivery process streamlined. Look for Justin’s designs online under the brand, “Goodworks.”
Justin said it has been quite a change to go from the black sheep of the family to the rock of support as the family patriarch. He recently led his daughter to Christ and continues to support his family through challenging situations. He has taught a Christian Apologetics course for the residents. s a daily driver of residents, he says he loves driving because it is more than transportation, it like being a “windshield therapist.” Justin states,
“My life was redeemed on this property, and I don’t know what my future holds but I can’t help but be optimistic and grateful for the opportunity to grow here.”
This is Life His Way!
Ben’s Story
Ben recently graduated from the nine-month program and three-month Aftercare. He has worked for one year at Bentley Automotive as a Porter/Advisor Assistant but recently renewed his vision for the U.S. Air Force by enlisting with a ship out date of August to begin his journey in Airfield Management and Airborne Mission Systems Specialist. He is currently living with our Campus Director as he prepares for the Air Force. He says, it “helped me a lot with staying accountable and having outside support. “
Fly high, Ben! This is Life His Way!
Deontay’s Story
After the nine-month program and our Advanced Recovery program, Deontay lived for 2½ years in our transitional housing. During this time, he has now worked for the Westin hotel for 6 years advancing to Bell/Valet Captain and Lobby Ambassador. Two years ago, he also started his own valet service called Rocket City Valet. Deontay states,
“The impact that His Way has had on my future is everything!! His Way brought me closer to God and since then I’ve found myself and I’ve become more comfortable with who I really am… Coming to His Way was one of the best decisions I will have ever made in my life. Now I am part of a family that is forever!!!”
God’s forever family. This is Life His Way!
These are just a few of a multitude of examples of men who have truly begun living Life His Way!
