Turning a New Leaf is a blog series that highlights some of the fundamental changes and new starts the men at His Way make on their road to lasting, Christ-centered recovery. This week’s story is about graduate and House Manager Jason Sessions. Read on to learn more about how His Way helped him find a vocation.
Jason’s Story
My name is Jason Sessions and I am a House Manager at His Way. About a year and a half ago, I was being released from prison. I wanted something more out of life than the dead-end life that I was living. Through a family member, I was told of His Way. I applied and was accepted.
Shortly after coming to His Way, I made the decision that I feel has completely changed my life. I turned my life over to God and got saved.
Coming out of prison, I was worried about finding a job. I had nothing. No Driver’s License, no work history for the past four years, and now I had three felonies to go along with that.
How His Way Helped Me Find a Vocation
Since I’ve been here, I’ve gotten my license back, I’ve learned two new trades, and my life is finally on track. I learned to be a tire technician and a window installer. Installing windows is my current occupation. Doing this is allowing me to run my own business, which has always been a dream of mine.
All I have now is because of having God in my life, doing what is expected of me, and my mentor Doug Stogner. He believed in me and gave me a shot and got me started in my business.
If all of this wasn’t enough, when I graduated and was going through the ARG program, more people believed in me and gave me the opportunity to be a House Manager. Every day I’m blessed with the life I have now.
Jason’s Advice to Anyone Overcoming Addiction
If I could offer anybody some advice to overcome addiction, I’d have to say, you have got to be completely tired of that life and be willing to change everything. When you do this and ask God into your life, He will open doors for you like you wouldn’t believe.
You can do anything that you set your mind to and with God on your side, there’s no limit to what you can do. As far as a new vocation goes, set your mind to what you want to do, put in the work to make it happen, and God will do His part.
