Celebrating the Art of Recovery
His Way is proud to observe National Recovery Month, acknowledging and celebrating those making the journey to recovery, and those who help them along their way. This month, we’re sharing some encouraging truths, to remind everyone that no matter who you are or where you are in your life, there is always hope on the way ahead.
You are Not Alone
According to a recent study by Addiction Group, over 50 million Americans experienced a substance abuse disorder in the past year. At first this may seem overwhelming, but there is still reason to find hope in that. Struggling with substance abuse can often come with a sense of isolation or guilt, but knowing that there are so many other people fighting the same battles means that you don’t have to fight these battles alone, and that the underlying issue isn’t just you. Recognizing this can make it easier to reach out and connect to others, and to find support on your way to recovery.
Recovery is Real
For many who struggle with substance abuse, the idea of recovery can seem like a distant dream. But we can tell you from experience that it’s real, and it works. Over 70% of adults who seek help with recovery are able to stay sober in the long term. While it isn’t always a quick or easy process, the fact that so many are able to break the harmful cycle of addiction and find peace is worth celebrating. However, the chance for that reality only comes when you commit to the journey, which is why it is so important to take that first step.
Here to Lift You Up
No one should ever feel like they have to walk the path to recovery alone. Studies have shown that people are more likely to successfully recover when they have support from friends and peer support groups. At His Way, we always have people in your corner, whether it is to cheer you on or hold you accountable. When the journey gets rough and the weight becomes heavy, we can ease your burdens and help you to keep going.
All Things are Possible with Christ
While we believe in and celebrate the power of community support, above all we celebrate the transformative power of Christ’s love. Strengthening your faith and embracing the love of Jesus can give you a strength beyond human understanding, nourishing your soul and enriching every aspect of your life. This is backed up by evidence as well: studies show that faith-based recovery programs have a significantly higher success rate than secular organizations. Every day we see the renewing power of Christ in action, and by strengthening your connection with Him, you can build your life on a firm foundation of faith.
A Long Journey, Full of Victories
It’s important to understand that even with high-quality treatment and support, the journey to recovery can be a long one. On average, a full lasting remission from substance abuse disorders can take roughly eight years. However, just because the road may be long does not mean it’s not a journey worth taking. Every day of sobriety, every moment of clarity, every lesson learned, and every challenge you overcome is a victory. Recovery isn’t just about reaching a final destination; it’s about the progress you make, the patience and perseverance you develop, and the strength you cultivate along the way.
