You never know what will happen at His Way – whether live or on His Way’s Social Media. God is at work at His Way and He has a wild imagination. Get ready to be surprised.
On His Way’s Facebook, there are short videos of His Way residents being interviewed about their favorite songs. Get the image in your mind of a grizzly-looking His Way resident, maybe in a T-shirt, being interviewed by a sweet-sounding female voice off-screen.
The off-screen voice asks “What is your favorite song?”
Grizzly resident – “Uh, I can’t recall the title but . . .”
Off-screen voice – “Maybe you can sing a few lines of it?”
At this point, well, it’s not what you would pay a big-ticket price to hear.
Now get another image in your mind. It is His Way Graduation. On the west side of the room are seated 40(ish) grizzly-looking residents. On the east side are visitors, family, friends, etc. Stuart walks to the mic with a big smile and leads a lively, meaningful spiritual song which is written in four-part harmony. Four-part harmony means that two parts are sung by women (soprano and alto) and two parts are sung by men (tenor and bass).
Looking to the west at the 40(ish) men, you are surprised to see and hear the most touching thing. They are singing! Not just timidly mumbling the words but belting out the sacred message with big smiles on their faces. Who knows which of the four parts, if any, they are singing?
Not long ago, most of these men had never heard the song, let alone sung it, especially not right out in front of people. But here they are, singing and making melody in their hearts.
They are making something else happen. I get a lump in my throat and my old eyes get damp.
They are singing a new song before the Throne. They are singing it His way.
