Our counseling staff has a new member.
Mikka—a sweet, lovable rescue dog—joined the His Way family at the end of March, and she’s already settling in wonderfully. She was eager to meet everyone from the start, quickly stepping into her role as a new “recovery ally.”
She joined big brother Sam, a beautiful white lab who has been part of our recovery community for the past two years. Sam may technically be older than Mikka but spend a few minutes with him and you’ll see he’s still just a big puppy.
Why Dogs Matter in Addiction Recovery
Beyond just being cute, our dogs are a meaningful part of the recovery process at His Way.
Dogs have a way of bringing people together naturally. These small interactions may seem simple, but they matter more than people realize.
Addiction thrives in isolation, but recovery grows in connection.
God designed us for community, and our counseling canines can help open the door back into it.
A Legacy of “Recovery Dogs” at His Way
Our affinity for these recovery pets has been part of the His Way culture for many years. Max was our first dog, brought in by a resident. He stayed with us for several years, and His Way was never the same after that.
Buddy was with us a shorter while, but his huge personality and love of tires are etched into our hearts.
Bella, our big playful dog, passed on from us recently after over ten years of faithful companionship.
Each of these dogs has helped shape the culture of His Way in meaningful ways.
