Hi, my name is Kevin Prempeh, originally from Queens, NY. About 25 years ago, I moved to Alabama with my adopted mother and family.
My story is almost like every other one who has traveled along the path of righteousness and ran away from the calling of God. You know how it goes—from the streets to drugs, to drinking and parties every day, and ultimately, in and out of jails and institutions for the last almost 27 years.
As of January 1, 2021, I ended up in jail once again facing a boatload of charges. That moment led me to fall on my knees in a cell one night calling out to God for his help. In a sincere prayer to God, I vowed that if he would give me another chance at life and help me proudly live for him once again, I would serve him wholeheartedly.
My Time at His Way
On August 30, 2021, I was accepted into a Christ-based rehab called His Way. With faith shown by actions, my lawyer generously paid for my entry fees.
Since I’ve been here, my transformation from the old to the new is incredible. However, I’m not claiming to have arrived or miraculously become this perfect being. But my mind and heart have been altered from their original state to a newness that is indescribable. January 19, 2021, I got baptized into Christ and covered in his blood.
Since my stay here, I’ve heard all kinds of stories from former and present residents. They have not stopped talking about this Clyde Jones! He is the man God chose to give the vision to build His Way, the place where many souls have been saved and many lives changed.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve reached out to Tom Reynolds about many things. One of the main reasons was to tell him how God has touched my heart concerning this Clyde Jones and how I would love the opportunity to meet him in person. I didn’t know I would get my chance to meet the man responsible for changing many lives around the world!
Meeting Clyde Jones
Recently, Mr. Tom Reynolds and I decided to visit Clyde. Mr. Clyde Jones is 93 years old. But when we stepped into his bedroom, we shook his hand, and his grip was like a teenager’s, filled with strength!
I was introduced as one of the residents of His Way and got to share how I was excited to meet the man who was responsible for the help I was receiving. I thanked him for being obedient to God’s call so that I would one day have the opportunity to be obedient as well.
Then, I asked him if I could pray with him for a minute, and he said, “Yes!” So, we said a short little prayer together. As I was praying, I could feel his grip tighten around my hand as if he felt God’s presence in the room with us at that very moment.
After the prayer, we sat there for a few moments longer soaking in all the wisdom this man had and the heart that God has given him to lead the way for many suffering addicts around the world. In the end, I thanked him for his service to God and his faithfulness to his calling, and we left.
The Importance of Our Calling
I am so thankful for being given the opportunity to meet a very good-hearted man, a man of God who has stayed the course and remained faithful until the very end! Because of Clyde, many others may have the chance to experience the love of God and pass the same torch on to others in the same position.
It’s so important to answer our calling because we just don’t know who God is going to lead into our lives! Then we can lead them on to Him. Amen.
