This is Tommy Thompson, he is 30 years old and is originally from Downey California. He spent most of his teenage and young adult years traveling around the country trying to find a home and happiness. When he could not find what he was looking for in a certain place and situation he quickly moved on to the next. According to him, he has come to realize at this point in his life that happiness isn’t a place, it’s a state of mind or perception. A lot of this travel was not in vain though as he has learned a lot of very valuable life lessons and even picked up and became successful at a valuable trade as a mechanic.
“I had spent years developing and cultivating my skills as a mechanic and fabricator on my different types of vehicles and machines. Through various mistakes I had made as a result of being lost in addiction I found myself spending a few year stint locked up in Madison County Jail facing a lengthy prison sentence. I had lost hope and a sense of purpose in my life. I was given the opportunity to go through the program at His Way and have found a community and sense of belonging with likeminded people that challenge me, guide me, and I feel purpose in giving back to this community. I have hope, strength, focus, and a happiness that is beyond measure because of what I obtained through His Way.” – Tommy.
He has found purpose in giving back and loves sharing these abilities and God given talents through maintaining the vehicles at His Way. He additionally supports the chain of thrift stores (The Saving Way) with their fleet of box trucks and has performed everything from servicing to engine swaps on these trucks, thus saving the ministry thousands of dollars. Tommy has become a very valued member of this ministry and community, he is also seemingly a larger-than-life example of the transformation a recovery program centered in Christ can be in someone’s life.
