Meet Malcom, a volunteer, friend, and supporter of His Way Atlanta! Malcom moved to Atlanta after graduating from Harding University and has lived here ever since. He and his wife, Susan, have been married for almost 43 years, and they have 3 children. One is an Associate Professor at the University of Tulsa, another works for a landscaping company in Reno, and the youngest is an on-air meteorologist for the Weather Channel!
Malcom plans to retire in August from a career in telecommunications, and his wife is a retired nurse who loves gardening and visiting national parks. Their favorite vacation spot is Sanibel Island in Florida!
How Malcom McCollum Got Involved with His Way
Malcom has known John Neiland and Herb Dowdy for a few years and worked with John and Herb in the past in recovery ministries. When they announced plans for His Way Atlanta, Malcom first got involved by helping to remodel the recovery residence.
As His Way Atlanta continues to grow, Malcom says he’s excited to know that this ministry is in good hands with the leadership of John, Herb, and Michael Prather.
Malcom’s Unique Volunteer Work with His Way
Most of Malcom’s volunteer work has been with outside landscaping, painting, and maintenance work. Last month, Malcom donated the time, money, and materials for a landscaping project at the residence. The landscaping work included a new walkway, a drainage project in the backyard, and a back deck! Around 20 volunteers and staff members volunteered their time and efforts to help with this project.
Beyond landscaping and maintenance, Malcom hopes to volunteer with more personal mentoring and teaching when he retires.
Malcom’s advice for someone struggling with addiction and not knowing what to do next:
“Be honest with yourself and acknowledge your personal struggles. Then attach yourself to others in the same situation and to prayerful mentors.”
Thank you, Malcom!
We wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for our incredible volunteers like Malcom! We’re thankful that he chooses to share his unique talents and gifts to support the His Way ministry. And we can’t wait to see how God uses him in the years to come!
